The Hotcoat Pro Model 1100 System is one of the higher end consumer level powder coating units available. The unit is well made for the market that it is intended for. Many users have transitioned over to commercial use with this unit because of the quality and great performance this gun provides. The powder cup makes for very quick and easy powder/color changes. Larger commercial setups require extensive clean up when changing colors as to not containment the powder with other colored powders. Overall, this is a great powder coating system for both beginner and intermediate powder coaters.

What is Bicarbonate Soda Blasting?

Soda Blasting is the newest technology available that safely strips paint and cleans nearly any type of surface. Before sodablasting, the best way to remove paint and other types of coverings from a surface was to sand blast it, sand it, scrap it, or use environmentally harmful chemicals.

Similar to sandblasting, soda blasting uses pressurized air to blast bicarbonate soda (a.k.a baking soda) on the surface removing various containments such as paints, rust, grease, oils, and corrosion. The benefit to soda blasting is that it does not harm the surface in any way. You can soda blast plastics, fiberglass, composites, and even aluminum without harming it. Plus bicarbonate soda also know as baking soda is environmentally safe and will not harm the environment at all!

You will see below a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle engine hood go through the soda blasting process; old paint, after sodablasting, and finally primed and ready for new paint.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is one of the most durable and long lasting finishes you can apply. Basically powder coating is exactly that, coating a metal material with a colored powder substance. The powder is shot on the material sticking to the material because of a negative charge placed on the material being coated.
Once the item is sufficiently covered with powder the item is then placed in a industrial oven. When in the oven the temperature is then raised to around two hundred degrees Celsius. This high temperature allows the powder to melt or cure. When the powder cures it forms a protective skin around the item being powder-coated and creates a very even, very tough coating. After the item has been heated for around 10 to 15 minutes it is removed from the oven and cooled. What you have left a the end of the powder coating process is a fantastic looking and highly durable coating. Powder coating a much more durable coating compared to all type of paint. Not only is it more durable but powder coating allows for a larger range of colors and finishes.
